Scared Out of Your Skin

by Abby N. Wooldridge

"I scared you out of your skin!" said the skeleton. "Now it's mine."

Jack chased the thief through the cemetery and slammed into the gate.

“Do you mind?” groaned a ghost. “Some of us are trying to rest. In peace!”

     “But I don’t belong here!”

     “You do now.

                          Unless…”

Jack followed the ghost’s gaze to the trick-or-treaters. “Dare me to cut through the graveyard?" one called. Not waiting for an answer, he slipped through the gate.

Jack crept behind a tombstone, masked in moonlight. “I’m really sorry,” he whispered. “But I’m gonna scare you out of your skin.”

This is my 100 word entry for Susaanna Leonard Hill's 10th Annual #Halloweensie contest.

The rules? Write a 100 word or less Halloween story for kids 12 and under using any version of these three words: "skeleton, creep," and "mask."

Many thanks to Susanna for creating such a fun contest and to all the prize donors for their generosity!
